Learning Policies
Learning offerings are a meaningful part of the Disney Programs experience and a highlight for many participants. To ensure everyone who comes through our doors has a positive and equitable learning experience, we’ve established a few important guidelines we ask that all Disney Programs learners follow.
We thank you in advance for helping to uphold these shared expectations and for playing your part in creating a welcoming, inclusive learning environment for all.
-The Disney Programs Team
Professionalism in Learning Offerings:
- All Walt Disney World Resort Property Rules apply to learning sessions. Please review them for a list of prohibited items, including selfie sticks.
- Please keep in mind that when you attend a learning offering, you are representing The Walt Disney Company, so it is important to behave professionally. Remember to give our guests the same respect in our classrooms as you would if you encountered them onstage while at work.
- Appropriate attire is expected when attending our learning offerings.
- Participants may not call out of work to attend learning offerings.
- Please listen closely to all directions given by the Disney Programs team members to help ensure the session runs smoothly.
Classroom Expectations:
- When attending learning offerings, please do not leave early - we ask that you stay for the full session until dismissed.
- If you must leave a session early for a scheduled work shift, please speak to a member of the Disney Programs team prior to the session.
- Please be respectful of facilitators and guest speakers.
- You may bring any preferred note-taking materials to learning offerings.
Learning Offering Registration Process
- Participants may register for Disney Programs learning offerings on DORMS.
- When registering for learning offerings, participants should read the entirety of the description for important information relevant to the session.
- Participants must register or drop the session by the register/drop date listed in the description.
- Only participants who are currently active on a program are eligible to register for and attend learning offerings. Participants are not permitted to attend learning offerings and/or Disney Programs events on their departure date.
- If a participant needs to cancel their registration for a learning offering and the register/drop date has passed, they must submit a request at support.disneyprograms.com.
Time Off Requests for Select Offerings
- For some Disney Programs learning offerings, time off may be requested for participants who register by the register/drop deadline notated in the DORMS description. Please note: this is a request for time off, but not a guarantee.
- If a participant is granted time off work, they are only guaranteed enough time off to attend the session. Depending on when the session takes place, the participant could still be scheduled to work later/earlier in the day.
- If a participant is scheduled to work during an offering they registered for and the register/drop deadline has passed, they must submit a request at support.disneyprograms.com prior to the start of the offering to inform the Disney Programs team that they cannot attend. Once a schedule conflict is confirmed, the participant will be dropped from the offering with no penalty.
Duplicate Classes
- Participants may see the same learning offerings scheduled multiple times throughout their program, as some offerings are offered on a weekly or monthly basis.
- Duplicate classes will not count towards a certificate*, and participants will only receive learning hours for the first time they successfully complete the offering.
*An exception to this policy is Improv for Improvement. Participants may take and receive credit for Improv for Improvement more than once during their program.
Requesting Accommodations
- If accommodations for learning offerings - such as an interpreter - are needed, participants should submit a request at support.disneyprograms.com at least two weeks prior to the scheduled offering.
Attendance Expectations
- If a participant registers for an offering (regardless of if it is before or after the register/drop deadline listed in the DORMS description), they are making a commitment to attend.
- Participants are responsible for checking in with a member of the Disney Programs team at the beginning of the offering to confirm attendance.
- If a participant is no longer able to attend an offering they have registered for, they may cancel/drop their registration directly through DORMS, providing they do so before the register/drop deadline listed in the DORMS description.
- If a participant is scheduled to work during an offering they registered for and the register/drop deadline has passed, they must submit a request at support.disneyprograms.com prior to the start of the offering. Once a scheduling conflict is confirmed, the participant will be dropped from the offering with no penalty.
- Participants must be present for the full duration of the scheduled session to receive learning hours for the session.
- Please be proactive in checking the session start and end time to avoid registering for overlapping sessions.
- Registered participants must arrive no later than five minutes prior to the start of a learning offering.
- Five minutes prior to the start of the session, the drop-in line will be combined with the registered line. At that point, any new arrivals will join the back of the line, regardless of prior registration.
- Out of respect for our facilitators and guest speakers, late arrivals to learning offerings will not be admitted.
Drop-in Policy
- Participants who are not registered for a learning offering may drop in for most offerings taking place at Apprentice Hall. Please refer to the DORMS description to confirm if drop-ins will be accepted.
- In the event there is availability for drop-ins to attend the session, the Disney Programs learning team will admit drop-ins on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at five minutes prior to the learning offering start time.
- Joining the drop-in line for an offering does not guarantee admittance or space available in the offering.
- Drop-ins will not be accepted for Discover Disney offerings.
No-Show Policy
- A participant will receive a no-show for offerings if:
- They do not show up for an offering they signed up for.
- They request to withdraw from an offering after the cancel/drop deadline for any conflicts other than work-related conflicts.
- Participants are allowed five no-shows for learning offerings throughout the duration of their Disney Program.
- After three no-shows, participants will receive a notice via email reminding them of the no-show policy.
- Once a participant no-shows a fifth offering, they will be blocked from pre-registering for any learning offerings for the remainder of their Disney Program.
- The no-show policy only applies to learning offerings and does not include other trips and events listed on DORMS. The DORMS description will say if the no-show policy applies to that offering.
- Participants blocked from registering for learning offerings can still drop-in.
- No-Show Policy and Extending Your Program:
-
- A no-show restriction will stay in place for the duration of a participant’s program.
-
- The restriction will no longer be in effect if a participant extends their program or returns for a future program.
Learning Hours and Certificates
- Learning hours and attendance can be accessed and tracked in the Program Activities Report on DORMS.
- Eligible Classes:
-
- Any classes on-site (at Apprentice Hall and at Flamingo Crossings Village West) are eligible toward learning hours.
-
- Discover Disney offerings do not count toward learning hours.
- Visit the Certificate Overview page to learn more about certificate qualifications and how to retrieve your certificate upon completion.
- Departing participants should submit any requests for certificates at least one week before their departure date to ensure the Disney Programs team can fulfill the request in time. Certificates must be picked up in person and cannot be mailed out if the recipient is not present to retrieve it.
Learning Certificates & Extending Your Program
- Learning hours are valid for one year. When a participant extends their program, learning hours will carry over through their program extension.
- If a participant returns for a program within the same year (e.g. - for a Summer Alumni program), they can continue to accumulate hours on top of the hours completed during their first program in that same year.
Discover Disney Policies
- Participants are eligible to register for one Discover Disney offering per quarter.
- Quarters run January – March, April – June, July – September, October – December.
- If a participant receives a no-show for a Discover Disney offering, they will not be eligible to register for another Discover Disney offering until the following quarter.
- Due to high demand, participants may only register for each Discover Disney offering one time.
- Drop-ins will not be accepted for Discover Disney offerings.
Special Engagement Policies
Special Engagements are those “once in a Disney Program” opportunities to hear from unique speakers from across The Walt Disney Company and the entertainment industry. Past Special Engagement sessions have featured Disney Legends, historians, performers and more!
- Professionalism in Learning Offerings Reminder:
-
- Please refer to the "classroom etiquette expectations" tab.
-
- Participants must always give all guests the same level of courtesy and respect as they would any guest speaker.
-
- Due to the popularity of Special Engagements, participants will most likely not have an opportunity to personally meet the featured guests and industry experts.
-
- Participants are not permitted to bring any gifts or items for Special Engagement guests to sign.
- Special Engagement Registration Process:
-
- Depending on the offering, Special Engagement registration may be available on DORMS or may require participants to fill out a survey expressing their interest in attending the event.
-
- If an interest survey is required, participants who express interest will be randomly selected to attend and notified via email if they are enrolled.
- Special Engagement Check-in Process:
-
- For the courtesy and safety of our participants living at Flamingo Crossings Village, as well as our Cast Members and special guests, participants are not permitted to form a line outside Apprentice Hall earlier than two hours prior to the event start.
-
- Participants are not permitted to cut in front of others or save spots in the line. If participants wish to sit together, their entire party must be present at the time they enter the line.
-
- As with all learning offerings, registered participants must arrive five minutes prior to the start time of the offering as listed on DORMS. Any late participants risk their seat being forfeited and given to a drop-in.
- Special Engagement Drop-In Policy:
-
- If there are two events listed on DORMS for a Special Engagement, there will be one drop-in line for both sessions.
-
- Due to the popularity of Special Engagement sessions, drop-in availability may be limited and is not guaranteed.
- Additional information regarding drop-in procedures for specific engagements may be communicated closer to the event - keep an eye on your email for a "Know Before You Go" message from the Disney Programs team.
Multi-Week Series Policies
Participants who sign up for a multi-week series will join a cohort of fellow Disney Programs participants for four or five weeks to learn more about a specific topic and grow in a professional area.
Those who successfully complete all classes in a multi-week series will earn a Mouseter's Certificate.
- Registration for Multi-Week Series:
-
- Registration for multi-week offerings is available on DORMS.
-
- Participants will only need to register for Week 1 of the multi-week series. All participants enrolled in Week 1 will automatically be enrolled in the subsequent weeks.
-
- As a reminder, participants are not permitted to attend learning offerings and Disney Programs events on their departure date. Therefore, if a participant registers for a multi-week series and their departure date is prior to the end of the series, the participant will be dropped from the entire series.
- Attendance at Week 1 of any multi-week series is required.
- If a participant no-shows week one, they will be dropped from the series and will need to register for an upcoming cohort if they wish to enroll again.
- Participants must attend all sessions in the series to earn a Mouseter’s certificate.
-
- Multi-Week series are typically four weeks, with cohorts meeting once a week for those four weeks.
-
- The exception is Butterfly Research with Disney Conservation, which is a five-week offering, meeting every other week for a total of 10 weeks.
Learn more about multi-week series - including what specific series are offered - by visiting the Learning Catalog.
