Taste the magic: A look behind the iconic treats at Magic Kingdom

If you’ve ever had a sweet treat at Magic Kingdom Park, chances are it was made in the Magic Kingdom Central Bakery that’s tucked away backstage. Inside, there’s a scent of freshly baked bread, an irresistible aroma of sugar, and dozens of culinary cast members bustling to create the iconic treats and baked goods that delight millions of guests.

Just after midnight each morning, the most magical bakery on earth begins its around-the-clock mission of supplying pastries to restaurants and food carts at Magic Kingdom Park. From the “grey stuff”- inspired desserts to Gaston’s cinnamon buns, cast members create tens of thousands of Disney delicacies each day for guests to enjoy when the park gates open.

If you ask Assistant Sous Chef Brian Wei what his favorite thing to make is, he’ll tell you it’s anything with chocolate!

But Brian, who has worked in various kitchens across Walt Disney World Resort during his eight-year career, says his favorite part of his career is not about rankings - it’s about making guests happy.

“It’s always a special moment to see that our work has brought a smile to people’s faces,” Brian said.

That core mission is evident among every cast member at the Magic Kingdom Central Bakery. Whether they’re kneading dough for the daily supply of bread, glazing cinnamon rolls, or decorating cupcakes, there’s a passion for how each delectable delight looks and tastes.

“This type of environment doesn’t feel like work,” Brian said. “Disney hires great people who inspire your work and your creativity.”
