Chris, a Disney College Program participant studying marketing, joins Kayla, a Disney College Program alumna working in marketing, to talk about how their programs have helped them on their career journeys.
Welcome to season five of our miniseries, where we’ll discuss all things about life on the Disney College Program! For more than 40 years, this unique internship experience has brought magic makers to Walt Disney World® Resort from across the country and many participants go on to have lasting careers with The Walt Disney Company.
Chris started in merchandise at the Creations Shop in EPCOT, but due to his desire to learn, passion for his work and persistence, he landed a new role as a logistics specialist since recording this episode! Kayla is started as a character attendant in Magic Kingdom and now works as a manager within the Talent Acquisition Marketing team. Though they completed their programs over ten years a part, both Kayla and Chris agree that their Disney College Programs made a big impact both personally and professionally.

Chris, from Nogales, Arizona, and a marketing student at the University of Arizona, brought his West Coast Disney magic to Walt Disney World! Growing up, Chris frequented Disneyland Resort and California Adventure and always dreamed of being a cast member. His Disney College Program experience allowed him to dive deep into Merchandise Operations. He eagerly soaked up every learning opportunity, relished shadowing his leaders and passionately supported the team. As his program draws to a close, Chris fondly remembers the incredible experiences and the realization of a lifelong dream.

Kayla Messinger McCarty is a seasoned marketing professional with over a decade of experience at The Walt Disney Company. Her journey began in 2013 as part of the Disney College Program, and she has since built a career in marketing spanning graphic design, communications, and marketing strategy.Currently a leader on the Global Talent Acquisition Marketing team, Kayla brings a deep understanding of Disney's unique brand voice and culture. She previously contributed her creative talents at Yellow Shoes, supporting Disney theme parks and resorts with innovative consumer campaigns.Kayla is passionate about representation in storytelling and believes in the transformative power of inclusive narratives. She is equally committed to nurturing emerging talent in an effort to empower the next generation of impactful professionals.She currently lives in the woods with her wife, their goofball husky mix, and little tabby cat.
