A Disney Cast Members Journey Across Generations
Felix’s story begins decades before his program, with his mother, Yuko, who participated in the same program 25 years ago at the Japan pavilion. Yuko not only discovered her passion for creating magical moments but also met her husband—Felix’s father—through the program, who worked in the Germany pavilion. Today, Felix follows in their footsteps, creating his own memories while honoring the legacy of his parents’ Disney journey.

“It’s unbelievable,” Felix shared. “I love my coworkers, and I love bringing magic to the guests. Every action we take makes a difference in their lives and just brightens up their day.”
Working at the Germany pavilion is not just about sharing the magic of Disney, but also connecting to his heritage. “I finished school and didn’t know what to do,” Felix said. “My parents always told me about the program. At first, it was challenging, but now I love it.”
His parents’ experiences helped prepare him for the challenges and joys of the program. Yuko, who worked in merchandise at the Japan pavilion during her year-long program, reflected on the lasting impact of her experience: “For us, it’s really more than treasure. It’s an unbelievable experience.”

During her visit to see Felix on his program, Yuko couldn’t help but reminisce about her own time as a participant. “I remembered so many memories—going to Disney Springs, dance lessons at the Polynesian Resort and, of course, the fireworks. I cried every time I saw them,” she said.
Disney International Programs also shaped Yuko’s life in unexpected ways. One day, while riding a bus alone to what was then Downtown Disney, she met Felix’s father, a Cultural Representative participant from Germany. What started as a chance meeting turned into a lifelong partnership. Now, seeing Felix on the same journey that brought her and her husband together fills Yuko with pride.
“I couldn’t imagine that I would be back here this way, as a mother,” she said. “It’s unbelievable. I have to cry everywhere.”

Felix also draws inspiration from the heartfelt letter his mother wrote him before his program. “This letter is really important to me,” Felix said. “Every time I was having a challenging time, I read it, and it gave me so much motivation and power.”
For both Felix and Yuko, the Disney Cultural Representative Program represents more than a year abroad—it’s a connection to culture, family and the transformative power of creating magical moments for others.
“I learned how to treat people and how to give them nice memories,” Yuko shared. “It’s an amazing time, and I hope Felix learns the same.”

Felix is carrying on the family legacy by fostering connections of his own, not just with guests but also with his coworkers and the culture he represents. “This program means so much to me,” Felix said. “It’s about creating unforgettable memories—for the guests, and for me.”
From Yuko’s first program in 1999 to Felix’s journey today, their family’s Disney story is a testament to how the magic of Disney transcends generations, creating bonds that last a lifetime.
