How the Navy Prepared One ESPN Employee for a Long-lasting Career!
As we bring Veterans and Military Families Month to a close, we’d like to thank all our Disney employees and cast members who have served their country. There is a vast community of veterans and their families who have joined The Walt Disney Company with an inspiring story. From utilizing the work ethic and passion built from service and bringing those skills to various roles in the company, there are many stories to be told!
Meet Patrick! He’s bringing his creative chops to the Charlotte ESPN offices as a senior colorist. Before transitioning to civilian life, Patrick served in the United States Navy for 10 years. As an engineer in submarines, Patrick was able to travel the world in surveillance. He loved the ability to work with diverse crews, grow his technical skills, and work every day with purpose. He also met his wife and they would visit Walt Disney World, EPCOT being their favorite!
During his later years in the Navy, Patrick found the opportunity to return to school. Always having a love for film and TV, he chose to study broadcast and film production. It was around this time that Patrick knew it was time to start transitioning to civilian life
Because of his hard work from school, Patrick was able to freelance and work in broadcast before bringing his talents to ESPN. Thanks to his military community, he was able to network and find the perfect fit to begin his career. Some of his favorite projects include working on documentaries and promotions for ESPN’s channels. He loved being able to work on “Wakanda Forever” commercials aired on SportsCenter.
Through his long career at ESPN, Patrick connected with the Disney veteran community through the Business Employee Resource Group (BERG) Salute. This community brought him fulfillment and genuine connection that many veterans look for. There are many VoluntEARs opportunities like visiting veterans in retirement homes, packing supplies for those overseas, and many other community building opportunities. Every year, the group also walks in the Charlotte Veterans Day Parade!
To all veterans and military families looking to take the next step in their careers, he says, “If you are in the military and transitioning, Disney is a great place that goes out of their way to bring all kinds of people to the table. You couldn’t ask for a better company to work for. Always see things as a stepping-stone for the next. The technical skills and work ethic I learned helped grow my career at Disney and ESPN.”
Thank you to Patrick for your service!
