A New Adventure is Waiting For You: Disney’s Military Fellowship Program

At Disney, we honor the service and resilience of veterans. We hope to offer career opportunities for those looking to transition into civilian life. One of those opportunities is the Disney Military Fellowship Program. As a participant of the United States Department of Defense Skillbridge program, we are able to offer veterans and military spouses the chance to gain work experience with The Walt Disney Company. It is a bridge of transition for those looking to learn more about building a career and starting the next chapter after their service.

Thanks to this program, we’ve been able to welcome over 70 fellows and we’re still growing!

Meet John! Since his program he has been able to grow into a full-time role with Disney as a quality and process improvement manager with Disney Signature Experiences. After almost 23 years in the United States Air Force, John knew it was the right time to make his transition into civilian life. He was inspired to learn more about creating a career with The Walt Disney Company after bringing his daughter to Orlando to participate in the Disney College Program!

From there, he was able to look further into the Disney Military Fellowship Program and start his journey as a project manager with Environmental Sustainability. During his Fellowship, he felt extremely supported and welcomed onto the team. He felt pride coming into Disney as well as similarities with the Air Force’s culture.

He says, “While the military and Disney are very different overall, they are very similar in their members’ dedication to the organization’s mission. Disney employees and cast members are the gold standard for providing an unmatched guest experience. The people are what drives the value of both organizations.”

Through the people he has met, and skills learned, John has proudly been able to transition into a full-time role after his Fellowship. To any veterans or military spouses, John offers these words of encouragement, “Stay humble as you start with the company. This is your opportunity to put away the uniform and remake yourself. All roles within the company are valuable and must work together to create a great guest experience. Your goal as a new fellow or employee/cast member should be to learn quickly and to create value for your team as soon as possible.”
