Growing a career

Boris knew from a young age that Disney was the company for him. “I’ve always been passionate about the Disney characters. In my life, I’m always inspired by the characters’ stories and the songs they sing.” Out of all the characters Boris loves, he relates to Hercules the most. “Like Hercules, I am finding my way and trying to go the distance with Disney regarding the goals I want to accomplish.”

Boris works as an Associate Engineer in the Facility Services Team but started his career in 2021 as a part-time attraction operation host in the Park Operations Team in Tomorrowland. “This was my first ever part-time job, so it was a big step for me. I was nervous, but I did it because of my passion for Disney.”

His educational background in Mechanical Engineering and work experience in Park Operations helped him secure an internship on the Attraction Engineering Services team, where he spent three months learning and growing. Once his internship was completed, he worked two more part-time roles in Operations and Facility Asset Management to keep his Disney career going as he finished his degrees in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong. During his part-time role in the Facility Asset Management team, he was offered a full-time role as an Associate Engineer in the Quality Engineering Team!

Boris has been able to grow both professionally and personally during his career at Hong Kong Disneyland. “Being here has helped me grow a lot. Professionally, I’ve learned advanced knowledge on how to deal with attraction components, as well as grown my project management skills. Personally, I’m a bit of a shy person and an introvert. But I’ve grown to become more talkative and confident in myself and my skills. I’ve also been able to grow my passion for the brand and the magical work I do daily.”

To Boris, Hong Kong Disneyland stands out as an employer due to its strong brand, storytelling elements, the ability to create magic and supportive leadership, all of which have directly contributed to his career growth. “I’ve met so many good leaders who have helped me grow a lot in my career here. They’ve given me great encouragement while also supporting me to take on new challenges. I’ve been able to share my goals with leadership during my time here, and they have helped me work toward those goals. Having good leaders is the reason I am in my current role today at Hong Kong Disneyland.”

Boris is not done growing with Disney. He is still finding his way and working towards future goals that he wants to accomplish. “I, one day, want to be at Walt Disney Imagineering. It’s my dream in the future to build attractions for all the Disney parks. Disney stories are told all around the world, so I want to become part of WDI to tell those stories through creating new attractions.”

Advice from Boris

If Boris could give advice to young talent who want to join Hong Kong Disneyland, it would be to never hesitate. “In the words of Mary Poppins, ‘everything is possible, even the impossible.’ Seize every moment and opportunity. If you’re really passionate about something, don’t be afraid to take that first step. You may get lost sometimes but keep going because you will find your way.”
