Meet Disney’s Newest Environmental Champions
At Walt Disney World, sustainability comes to life in surprising ways. Every day, cast members are finding creative ways to reduce waste, conserve resources, and inspire others to care for the planet. The Disney Environmental Champion Awards celebrate those who turn their passion for the environment into meaningful impact – and our latest recipients are leading the way.
Maggie is Sew Sustainable
Maggie, a costuming area manager, launched a sustainability toolkit for Costume Design and manufacturing. Her initiative empowers teams to design zero-waste costumes and source certified sustainable materials.
Alongside this, Maggie also launched several recycling programs for shoes, garments, and scrap fabrics. She partnered with other lines of business such as merchandise and corporate social responsibility to implement sustainability programs that have directly contributed to Disney’s environmental goals.
The Catering Event Operations Team is a Glass Act
The Catering Event Operations team has taken recycling to new heights by diverting over eight tons of glass from landfills. Using Disney’s glass pulverizer, they’ve transformed waste into usable material that helps plants grow at EPCOT and covers new ground at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
Their efforts show how innovation and teamwork can turn everyday materials into something extraordinary.
Housekeeping Director Eric is Tidying Up the Earth
As a housekeeping director, Eric has expanded recycling initiatives within Custodial Utilities, including soft plastic and glass reuse. He’s collaborated with multiple departments to emphasize the importance of material diversion and reuse, inspiring fellow cast members and leaders to adopt more sustainable practices.
Eric’s commitment is inspiring more consistent eco-conscious habits into the daily rhythm of resort operations.
Disney Live Entertainment Eco-Techs Created Recycling that Pops
Behind the scenes, Disney Live Entertainment Eco-Techs are keeping the magic green. Since 2023, they’ve diverted more than 44,000 pounds of waste from landfills through their Orange Bin recycling program, which recycles e-waste, pyro tubes, and other materials used in entertainment. Their work ensures that dazzling shows leave a lighter footprint.
