Creating Magic on Main Street, U.S.A.: Meet Matthew
Matthew Yeung, a part-time Merchandise cast member at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, has been creating one-of-a-kind experiences on Main Street, U.S.A., for guests at the Emporium since 2011. Whether they’re looking for limited-edition memorabilia, sweet treats, or a personalized Disney shirt, Matthew is always there to lend a helping hand.
We recently sat down with him to talk more about his career and it was obvious, from the glowing words of Matthew’s coworkers and the cast compliment letters from guests, that his passion for Disney and the guest experience has resonated with many.

“I lived in Honolulu for 20 years before retiring from my previous job and moving back to Hong Kong,” he shared. “I was reading the newspaper and saw that Disney was hiring at an upcoming job fair and decided to apply. I still remember when they told me that I was chosen to join the company 12 years ago on November 7.”
Since then, he’s helped mentor new cast members as they started their own Disney journey and taken part in a variety of impactful experiences, including helping to grant a wish for a Make-A-Wish child and their family.
“Passion in your role is the key to success,” he shared. He’s also found that continued happiness working at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has been rooted in the supportive culture of his leadership and colleagues. “Over the years, my physical condition has changed, and my managers have always been very helpful and flexible with adjustments to my work schedule.”
“Everyone here is also very friendly,” he added. “We call each other by our first names. Even Michael Moriarty [President and Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort] told me to call him Mike after we met at the Emporium once.”
When asked what he’s looking forward to next, Matthew shared his excitement in continuing to spend free time strolling through the park while enjoying his favorite Disney snack – fresh popcorn – and talking with guests.
