Why Doing the Disney College Program During the Holidays Is Truly a Dream Job

The magic of the holidays is in the air, and there's something truly special about working at Walt Disney World Resort during this time of year. For Riley, a Disney College Program participant, being part of the magic at Pop Century Resort during the holidays has been a dream come true. This holiday season, Riley is creating magic for guests while experiencing the wonder of Disney during the most festive time of the year.

Working for Disney has always been Riley's ultimate goal. "As a kid, I wanted to be one of the cast members that waved goodnight with the Mickey hand from the fountain at EPCOT," Riley recalls. "As I got older, I realized that my true passion was in marketing, and I combined that love with my admiration for Disney to shape my career goals." Riley's journey to Disney was guided by interactions with cast members during family trips, many of whom recommended the Disney College Program as the perfect first step. Now, in 2024, Riley is living out that dream, and the holiday season at Disney is the perfect setting for creating magical moments.

"It's magical! Disney at the holidays has always been my favorite," Riley says. "Being at a resort gives me the chance to see guests head to Halloween and Christmas parties, then talk to them when they come back at night, excited about the fun they had. Watching kids joyfully recount their adventures, whether meeting a character or riding their favorite attractions, makes it all the more special."

For Riley, the holidays are not just about the decorations and events; it's about personal connections and the chance to impact guests' experiences positively. "The guest interactions are the most fulfilling part of my job," Riley explains. "Talking to guests, learning where they're visiting from and hearing about their holiday traditions—all part of the magic. I love adding that little bit of happiness to their day, just like the cast members did for me growing up."

Whether it's sharing a festive greeting, helping guests find the perfect holiday souvenirs or giving them a bit of extra magic, Riley embraces every opportunity to make the season special for visitors. "Sometimes it's as simple as saying 'Happy Holidays' or 'Merry Christmas' at the end of a transaction. Other times, I'll help guests get their holiday gear ready, like removing tags from Christmas ears so they can wear them right away," Riley shares.

Riley has been deployed to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa this holiday season, where the iconic gingerbread house creates an unforgettable atmosphere. "It's such a special experience to be part of that magic, even if I'm not in the house itself. The excitement from guests is contagious!" Riley shared that working at the Grand Floridian during this time has been especially fulfilling, as guests are thrilled to see the gingerbread house, and the festive merchandise only adds to the joy. Being part of that excitement has been a highlight of the season.

Riley also holds dear a holiday memory from working at Pop Century Resort. "As a kid, I always stayed at Pop Century during Christmas. Now, as a cast member, I got to stand in front of the Christmas tree at Pop Century, just like I did years ago, and it felt surreal. It's a beautiful feeling to be a part of this magic as an adult."

Riley encourages anyone considering the Disney College Program to take the leap. "Even if you're nervous or unsure, do it!" she says. "The experiences you get, the people you meet, and the memories you create are worth every second. No matter what you're studying, this program is an incredible experience that I will cherish forever."

For Riley, the holidays at Disney are a reminder of why they chose this path and why Disney's magic is worth sharing. It's a season of joy, memories and the opportunity to spread happiness to others, and Riley is making the most of it, one guest interaction at a time.
