ESPN NEXT participant spotlight: Jose, content associate
At ESPN, it takes many passionate people to serve sports fans anytime, anywhere. Meet one of the dedicated ESPN employees who work behind and beyond the camera to capture legendary moments in sports.
Jose is a content associate based in Bristol, Connecticut, participating in the ESPN NEXT program. In his role, he assists with sports coverage and creates ESPN features, but Jose says his main responsibility is to be a great storyteller. He weaves in narratives using his storytelling skills to create more engaging content for sports fans. “I pitch feature-related stories and manage collaboration with external production companies. I also travel to the field and help with production and construct the entire media piece back in-house on the ESPN Bristol campus.”
When Jose discovered the ESPN NEXT program, he was quick to apply because he knew about the company’s culture. “I enjoy being part of a team that strives for collaboration and preaches the idea that no one is left behind.” Now, he’s a key player working alongside this triumphant team—and Jose takes great pride in being part of it.
What has been Jose’s proudest moments at ESPN? As a fan of combat sports and mixed martial arts, he has had the opportunity to produce several feature stories on people he admires including President of UFC Dana White and MMA fighter Raúl Rosas Jr. He has also received accolades for his work! “I’m most proud about my Emmy Awards-nominated feature highlighting professional boxer Amanda Serrano,” he remarked.
Jose is on an exciting path to develop his career at ESPN as he now pursues the Accelerator program, an extension of the ESPN NEXT program designed to fast-track the career trajectories of content associates. He relishes the relationships he has built during his program with mentors that have given him the tools to be successful in his role. Jose’s work motto is to “always give 100% of your efforts because everything will pay off at the end.”
ESPN NEXT has been an enriching and memorable experience for Jose. As he continues his journey on the program, he encourages others to begin their early career by applying to ESPN NEXT. “If you’re looking to learn and work alongside the talented professionals in the sports industry, I highly recommend you apply to the program.”
