Building a 20-Year Career with Hong Kong Disneyland
Did you know that this September marks the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort? The park has created lifelong memories for guests through unforgettable attractions, shows, food and more, but the cast members are what truly bring the magic to life every day. Cast members like Keith!
Keith is a Manager with Strategic Sourcing. He has been with Hong Kong Disneyland since day one and helped open the park 20 years ago in 2005. He’s worked with multiple lines of business throughout the company, creating enriching relationships with fellow cast and even received the most coveted honor, The Walt Disney Legacy Award.
Growing a career
Keith started with Hong Kong Disneyland as a contractor working with the Strategic Sourcing team. In his role, he acted as a trusted advisor to all lines of business and outside vendors. “Sourcing is very interesting! We work a lot onsite and in the office. Relationship building is extremely important,” he shared.
Before Hong Kong Disneyland officially opened to the public, Keith and his coworkers attended a cast member preview event and got a sneak peak of the brand-new park. “When the day finally came to open the park to the public, I was fortunate to witness the first batch of guests entering the gate – all the joy, all the crazy excitement – it made our hard work worth it,” he recalls.

Throughout his career, Keith has worked with various areas like Food and Beverage, Entertainment, Technology and most recently Facilities Management. Through his work with these lines of business his leaders noticed how well he handled sourcing work independently and thought it was time to evolve his career to lead teams, so Keith was promoted to Manager. “Along the journey, I tried to open my mind to accept challenges even in areas which I might not have the most experience,” he explained, “I’m grateful to have help and support from different great people in the company.”
Within his current role, one of his main priorities is supplier diversity. He shared that, along with his leadership, his team is actively working on partnering with small local vendors, women-owned businesses, non-profit organizations, and more. “We want to uphold the Disney standards and ensure that all voices are included in our work,” he said, “We are the liaisons between the park and the outside world. We are a bridge to translate the ‘Disney’ language to vendors and partners. It is important to understand both what the operation and partners need.”

Leaving a legacy
In 2023, Keith was awarded the illustrious Legacy Award. The Walt Disney Legacy Award is a global recognition program celebrating Walt Disney’s lasting legacy by acknowledging outstanding cast, crew, Imagineers and employees worldwide who put forth their very best for Disney’s guests and their fellow employees. The award is Disney Experiences’ highest honor, recognizing truly exceptional individuals within the organization who excel at dreaming, creating, and inspiring.

“It was a real surprise! I never thought I would receive this huge honor,” Keith beamed. Keith has always looked for these special opportunities and unique connections. Through building and fostering relationships, he has left an impact on his fellow cast members. “The best part of working at Disney is there are so many opportunities outside of your daily job. You can find enjoyment in and out of your work. I love meeting cast members and employees from around the company!”
Looking to the future
“The park is always changing! At the start, Disney, as a brand, was not always the biggest entertainment influence in Asia. But now, it is a household name! Disney has really adapted to the Asian guest. It has been quite the transition, and I am excited for future growth!”
With a 20-year career, Keith is always looking towards the future. He wants to continue to grow with Hong Kong Disneyland and keep finding different projects to be a part of. “It’s hard to find another company that has as many opportunities like Disney,” he said.
Keith’s advice for anyone looking to start their own journey at Hong Kong Disneyland, “Be passionate! Keep yourself passionate about your work and the company. Disney is so dynamic, be ready for anything. How you ride out change is important. And always remember, your career is a journey. Keep an open mind.”

For 20 years, Hong Kong Disneyland has been creating memories for cast members and guests alike. And starting June 28, the celebration will begin! From new parades, food offerings and merchandise – there will be so many ways to experience the magic. Thank you to cast members, like Keith, who create amazing experiences for all to enjoy!
