In the words of Walt Disney, “Disneyland will never be completed,” and with the help of the Industrial Engineering team, that sentiment will continue to ring true! This team focuses on driving operational efficiency to enhance the guest experience. They also work on long-term strategic initiatives that help shape the future of the parks.

No one knows the impact of this team better than Sangita, a Manager of Industrial Engineering who has been contributing to this work for over 20 years! Sangita and her team ensure that guests get the most out of every visit to Disneyland Resort. We caught up with Sangita to learn more about her robust career with Disney!

What inspires your work?

“What inspires my work is knowing that for some families, a trip to Disneyland is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. That thought motivates me to make every moment as magical and memorable as possible. As a kid, I believed Disneyland was a place where everything just magically happened. Now, I love that I get to engineer the magic behind the scenes for others. One of the most rewarding feelings is walking through the park with my family and pointing out things I helped design, build or improve. It’s humbling and exciting to know that my work helps create joy for millions of people. At the end of the day, it’s all about creating happiness, and I’m proud to play a part in that magic.”

What was the most significant project in your career at Disney?

“It’s hard to pick just one project because I’ve been fortunate to work on so many meaningful initiatives throughout my career. But if I had to choose, the most significant would be at the very start of my journey, helping build the food & beverage industrial engineering support structure from the ground up. Beyond that, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to incredible development projects like Cars Land, San Fransokyo Square, Café Daisy, the Downtown Disney District expansion and so many more.  Each of these projects gave me the chance to engineer solutions that not only improved operations but also elevated the guest experience in tangible ways.”

How does your work impact Disney’s success as a company?

“Our work connects different groups, providing data-driven recommendations that influence strategic decisions. We have a seat at the table for future development projects, ensuring everything we build is right-sized and balanced from a capacity and demand perspective.

Ultimately, what we do impacts the guest experience. Happier guests mean higher satisfaction, repeat visits and lasting memories. Knowing our work contributes to that is incredibly rewarding.”

What is your favorite part of the day?

“My favorite part of the day is that no day is ever the same. In our field, there’s no such thing as a typical day, and that’s what makes it exciting! One day, I might be out in the park for hours observing an operation, whether it’s an attraction, a restaurant or a merchandise shop interacting with frontline cast members and guests. The next day, I could be at my desk diving into data and uncovering insights. But if I had to choose one thing, it would be working with people. Collaborating, connecting and learning from others truly energizes me.”

What are the most challenging and most rewarding parts of your role?

“The most challenging part of my role is juggling a long list of projects and priorities. In a big company, things don’t always move quickly, and sometimes it takes time to see recommendations come to life because of the scale and complexity. It can be tough, but it also teaches patience and persistence.

The most rewarding part? That’s easy. The product we support is tangible, and we get to see the real impact of our work when we step onstage. There’s something special about knowing the effort behind the scenes translates into something people can experience and enjoy. And as a leader, one of the greatest joys for me is helping my team reach their goals and dreams. Watching them grow, succeed and celebrate their wins…that’s what truly makes this role meaningful for me.”

What has surprised you most about working at Disney?

“What has surprised me most about working at Disney is just how much thought and detail go into every single decision. From the outside, the magic feels effortless but behind the scenes, there’s an incredible amount of collaboration, creativity and precision to make that magic happen.

I’ve also been amazed by the culture of innovation and support. Even in such a large company, there’s a genuine sense of teamwork and shared purpose. Everyone is committed to creating unforgettable experiences for our guests, and that passion is contagious.  For me, the biggest surprise has been realizing that the magic I grew up believing in isn’t just real, it’s engineered by talented, dedicated people who care deeply about every guest’s experience.  I’m lucky I get to be one of those people.”
