Disney Technologists Empower the Magic at the 2025 Grace Hopper Celebration
Last month, The Walt Disney Company once again participated in the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing – the world’s largest gathering of women and non-binary technologists. This year’s conference took place in Chicago, and Disney cast members, employees and Imagineers came from around the country to network with aspiring technologists, share advice and show off their latest projects.
At our booth, attendees were encouraged to “<em>power the magic.” Inspiring quotes from four beloved Disney characters – Moana (Moana), Jessie (Toy Story), Ahsoka (Star Wars) and Shuri (Black Panther) – set the scene for exciting and thought-provoking conversations.
“I am honored to represent Disney at the Grace Hopper Celebration this year,” Mitali, a Lead Software Engineer, explained, “Being able to showcase Disney’s innovative projects and inclusive culture – where creativity and collaboration thrive – makes this event truly special.”
Beyond the booth, our technologists presented a peek behind the magic during speaking sessions throughout the conference. A record-number of speakers came from Disney this year with 22 employees taking the stage to share stories and insights while diving into the technical details of their work. Speaking engagements included topics such as the data backend of Disney+, engineering Disney’s real-time messaging platform and navigating leadership as a woman in tech.
A highlight of the week was our after-hours event, where select attendees were invited to spend a night at the Field Museum for special presentations and deeper conversations with our technologists.
It was an impactful and empowering week for all! Hear about it directly from our employees below:
