"The Disney College Program was a great way to get my foot in the door to start my career with Disney!" she shared.

"I chose to do the Disney College Program because of my love for Walt Disney World and to provide the magic I had experienced growing up in the parks and resorts," Brittany explained.
Both were overjoyed when they learned they had been selected for the Character Attendant role. "It was my top pick when I applied, and to be selected was a dream come true!" Summer exclaimed. Brittany's excitement was palpable: "I literally screamed and ran into my parents' room to tell them. I was over the moon that I would be able to do a role that fit my background in animation and dance so well."
A Day in the Life of a Character Attendant
The role of a Character Attendant is multifaceted, requiring a deep understanding of Disney storytelling, strong communication skills and a passion for guest service. Summer described, "I would help facilitate character interactions and provide the smoothest experience possible for the guests and characters."

Brittany, who worked with characters from Disney Animation, Pixar Animation and Star Wars, emphasized the importance of storytelling in her role. "I supported the storytelling of many characters through character moments, meet and greets and shows," she said. Whether translating for BB8, bounty hunting with the Mandalorian or hiding from Stormtroopers with Chewbacca, Brittany's days were filled with immersive, story-driven interactions that brought the magic of Disney to life for guests.
Creating Magical Moments
For Summer and Brittany, the most fulfilling part of being a Character Attendant was the guest interactions. "Seeing kids light up with that huge smile on their face when they meet their favorite character in real life is so special," Brittany said. Summer echoed this sentiment, sharing that "the most fulfilling part of my role is definitely watching little kids meet their favorite character for the first time." The joy on the faces of both children and their parents made every day special.
One of Summer's most memorable moments was playing "lost boy, lost boy, pirate" (a Disney twist on "duck, duck, goose") with Peter Pan and a group of children in Fantasyland. Brittany recalled an unforgettable interaction with a young Star Wars fan at Launch Bay, where she and Chewbacca engaged the boy in a detailed conversation about his adventures flying the Millennium Falcon. "This interaction was so memorable to me because of how excited the little boy was to just talk with Chewie and me," Brittany said. "Making him feel immersed in the Star Wars universe made that moment special."
Growth Through the Disney College Program
The Character Attendant role not only provided Summer and Brittany with great experiences but also helped them grow personally and professionally. "It has definitely helped me with growing my problem-solving skills," Summer noted, adding that the ability to make quick decisions and create resolutions has boosted her confidence. Brittany found that her role as a Character Attendant aligned perfectly with her background in film and animation, opening up new career paths she hadn't considered before. "This role allowed me to expand and strengthen my skillset in strong communication, being proactive and being true to who I am," she explained.
Their experiences as Character Attendants also shaped their overall Disney College Program experiences. Summer felt she was placed in the perfect role, allowing her to make lasting memories and form close friendships. "It definitely made me love every second of my college program," she said. Brittany, who embraced every opportunity to learn and grow, credited her role with helping her build a strong network and achieve recognition as a Stand Out Disney Programs Participant of the Month.

Summer and Brittany offer enthusiastic encouragement for anyone considering the Disney College Program. "Absolutely go for it!" Summer advised. "You can only grow as far as you let yourself. Days will be long and hard, but finding those long days' fun, magical moments makes it worth it." Brittany likened the program to being a student-athlete, saying, "You never stop talking about it." She emphasized the value of the program in developing both professional skills and personal growth, urging potential participants to "just go for it and take that leap."
