2024 DET Program Writer, Darek Cioch

Kudos to 2024 DET Program Writer, Darek Cioch, for staffing on ABC/20th’s 9-1-1! A Korean and Polish-American writer originally from Seattle, Darek studied film at UC Santa Barbara. Prior to the program, Darek held a variety of positions in the entertainment industry, including assisting the producers of the Emmy Award-winning series TRUE DETECTIVE, and supporting the HBO Programming teams covering BARRY, BALLERS and INSECURE. Darek also held Writers’ Assistant and Showrunners’ Assistant positions at ABC’s THE BAKER AND THE BEAUTY and Hulu’s INTERIOR CHINATOWN, among others. A Finalist for the Sundance Episodic Lab, Darek was selected for the 2021 CAPE New Writers Fellowship. An eclectic dramedy writer, Darek is as comfortable crafting action sequences as he is meet cutes, and he’s personally experienced the power of levity & heart in storytelling as a means to overcome tragedy, grief, and misunderstanding.
