How to Prepare for Your Disney College Program Virtual Interview

Disney College Program Virtual Interview Resources

Your interview will take place as an on-camera video interview through Microsoft Teams, giving you the opportunity to connect face-to-face with a Disney recruiter. If this is your first time doing a video interview, don’t worry. We’re here to walk you through what to expect, how to prepare and a few simple tips to help you feel confident before your interview begins.

During your interview, your recruiter will ask questions to learn more about you, your experience, your interests and why you want to participate in the Disney College Program. This is also your chance to show your personality, share your enthusiasm and help us get to know you beyond your application.

Your camera must remain on throughout the interview, so it’s important to prepare for a comfortable and professional video experience.

Before your interview, you’ll receive information about joining through Microsoft Teams. Disney College Program backgrounds will also be available for you to use during your interview. Whether you choose to use one of those backgrounds or keep your own, we recommend finding a quiet, well-lit space where you feel comfortable and can focus.

Here are a few helpful things to keep in mind before, during and after your video interview.

Set yourself up for success before the interview

A great interview starts before you even join the call. Taking a few minutes to test your setup, choose your space and get settled can help you feel more prepared and present when it’s time to meet your recruiter.

Choose a quiet, well-lit space where you’re less likely to be interrupted. This could be a bedroom, home office, study room, library meeting room or another private area where you can speak comfortably. If you live with roommates, family members or pets, consider letting them know your interview time in advance so they can help limit noise or distractions.

Try to sit somewhere with light in front of you, such as facing a window or lamp, rather than having bright light behind you. This helps your recruiter see you clearly on camera. If your background is busy or distracting, you may want to use one of the Disney College Program backgrounds provided or choose a simple, clean space behind you.

Dress for the opportunity

Even though your interview is virtual, it’s still important to dress professionally. A good rule of thumb is to dress one level above what you think is expected.

Choose something that makes you feel confident and interview ready. You don’t need to be overly formal, but your outfit should show that you’re taking the opportunity seriously. Solid colors or simple patterns tend to work well on camera.

Check your technology ahead of time

Before your interview, make sure your device is fully charged or plugged in. Silence notifications on your phone, computer or tablet so you aren’t distracted during the conversation.

It’s also a good idea to test Microsoft Teams ahead of time. Check your camera, microphone and internet connection before your scheduled interview. If possible, do a quick test call with a friend or family member so you can make sure everything looks and sounds the way you want it to.

If you plan to use headphones, test those too. Make sure they are connected, charged if wireless and comfortable enough to wear during the interview.

Log in early

Plan to log in about 15 minutes before your scheduled interview time. This gives you a few extra minutes to handle any last-minute technology issues, adjust your camera, check your lighting and take a breath before the interview begins.

Be present during the conversation

Once your interview begins, focus on being present and engaged. Looking at your camera while speaking can help create the feeling of eye contact with your recruiter. It may feel a little different at first, but it helps make the conversation feel more natural.

Listen carefully to each question, and don’t be afraid to pause for a moment before answering. You don’t have to rush. Taking a second to gather your thoughts can help you give a more thoughtful response.

Your recruiter wants to get to know you, so answer honestly and bring your personality into the conversation. Share your experiences, what you’ve learned from them and why the Disney College Program is meaningful to you.

After your interview

After your interview, make sure to continue checking your email and your candidate dashboard for updates or next steps. Timelines may vary, so keeping an eye on those channels is the best way to stay informed throughout the process.

And remember, the goal of this interview is not to be perfect. It’s to be prepared, present and yourself.
