Disneyland participants lend a hand and become part of a special Disney legacy

When our participants arrive for their Disneyland College Program, everyone has huge expectations on how the program can help them develop their skills and enhance their resume. They want an opportunity to get their foot in the door at The Walt Disney Company, network with leaders and for most of them, land their next job at Disney.

Sound familiar? Of course! You’re probably looking into the program for those exact reasons and with a lot of hard work, anything is possible!

But while you’re here, you have so many other amazing opportunities that are beyond your wildest dreams. One of them is our Disney VoluntEARS program and having the chance to make a difference in the local community. You may have heard about the VoluntEARS program, but what are some of the things we do?

Recently, our California-based participants had the opportunity to partner with KaBOOM!, a national non-profit that works to create safe play environments for children all throughout the country. Building a playground is probably not something you’d ever imagine yourself doing, but at Disney, teamwork makes the dream work and after an 8 hour day of hard work, a beautiful playground stood on the site of a once empty lot.

More than 50 enthusiastic Disneyland Resort participants joined forces with Disney executives and local community members to build a safe playground in our community. Disney Cast Members have partnered with KaBoom! to build over 55 playgrounds in neighborhoods that need them the most and I’m so proud our participants could lend a hand for this one.

They spent the day working side-by-side with leaders and executives from the Disneyland Resort and the day gave everyone a fantastic chance to talk, swap stories and learn about the different journeys that led the leaders to their current roles at Disney. By the end of the day, after moving mulch to the playground, mixing cement and painting the sidewalk, the participants’ bright white VoluntEARS shirts were covered in dirt and pride from the day’s activities.

Taking part in our Disney VoluntEARS program while you’re on the Disneyland College Program is an exciting way to meet new people from different lines of business and a great way to make lasting memories, all while giving back to the surrounding community.

VoluntEARS at the Disneyland Resort contribute more than 85,000 hours of community service through projects each year and new projects are regularly posted to the VoluntEARS website that Cast Members can access. They can range from beach cleanups and helping out at schools, to building a playground and making military packs for our troops overseas. And that’s only a fraction of what we do each year!

Make sure to take advantage of these opportunities during your program and become part of this incredible Disney tradition!
