Outdoor Heat Illness Prevention
If your Production will be working outside when the predicted temperature will be at least 80 degrees Fahrenheit, Production will need to reduce the risk of work-related heat illness. It is a Cal/OSHA requirement that all employees (Cast, Crew, Extras, Day Hires, everyone) be trained in Heat Illness Prevention, prior to working in the heat. The following documents will aid production in adhering to the Cal/OSHA Heat Illness Standard (California – Title 8 California Code of Regulations, Section 3395).
- AD’s are required to conduct a meeting to go over site specific details, which include the location of water, shade, and procedures for responding to symptoms of heat illness and how to respond to a medical emergency.

- Department Heads use the Preventing Heat Illness document to train their crew.
- Document all meetings using the Toolbox Talk Acknowledgement – Form 07A. Make sure to fill in all the boxes.
- Distribute the Safety Facts Preventing Heat Illness form to all background and use the Toolbox Talk Acknowledgement to acknowledge they’ve been made aware of the program.
- Post Outdoor Heat Prevention Plan at all outdoor locations.
